Who we are
This site is written by the editorial team at semiautomaticespressomachine.com, under the name Pull & Pour. We are not a maker, not a store and not a lab. Our goal is buying advice for people who weigh their shots, or are about to start. The person responsible for the content is named in the imprint.
Why this site exists
Anyone researching a semi-automatic espresso machine runs into the same few claims again and again. A higher bar number makes better espresso. A built-in grinder saves money. A standards body has set a tamping force. Thick foam is a sign of quality. When we traced these claims back to primary sources, none of them held up as stated.
That is why you will find here:
- one clear recommendation for each need instead of endless lists,
- checked facts with sources, including where many sites simply copy from each other,
- background explainers, how-tos and answers to common questions,
- a lot of coffee pictures, all clearly credited as AI-generated scenes, none of them showing a product we link to.
How we work
- Sources: We read maker product pages, retailer pages, the Italian espresso standard (INEI), the SCAA water standard and published research. The most important sources are listed at the end of each page.
- No lab tests: We have not pulled shots on these machines or measured them. That is why we talk about a "comparison" and a "recommendation", not a "test". How a machine becomes a pick is explained under how we compare.
- No invented experiences: You will not find personal stories here. The practical tips summarize what makers, standards and published sources say.
- Gaps stay visible: Where a maker's page did not state a value or could not be read, we say so instead of filling the gap.
- Up to date: Every page shows when it was last reviewed. When models or availability change, we update the page.
What we are not
We do not replace a technician. Steam, hot water and mains voltage deserve respect. For repairs and anything inside a machine, we point you to the manual and to qualified service. We do not publish wiring instructions for PID retrofits.
How the site is funded
The site is free and carries no banner ads. It is funded through affiliate links to Amazon. If you buy through them, we receive a small commission, and you do not pay more. No maker pays for a recommendation. The details are in the affiliate disclosure.
